Professional Certification

The ASSP Northwest Chapter strongly supports professional development and professional certification of its membership.  To further this effort, we sponsor several approaches to encourage members to achieve further professional certification.  Please refer to the Board of Certified Safety Professional’s website to learn more about the certifications and qualifying requirements http://www.bcsp.org/

Professional Certification Study Group

ASSP NW Chapter will be presenting a Professional Certification Study Group Seminar Series!

All sessions are presented in virtual, webcast format.

It doesn’t matter where you are- home, laptop, office, or mobile app- you will be able to participate in the live study group session! No travel, no traffic – maximize your time and study efforts. Webcasts will be available at no-cost to members. They will include topics such as: study tips and tricks, industrial hygiene, statistics and probability, physics, chemistry, fire safety, risk management, engineering economy, math review, ventilation, and more.

Professional Certification Study Material Loans:

ASSP Northwest Chapter has purchased a limited number of printed and CD-ROM CSP study materials, available for loan up to 3 weeks (only one resource at a time) through the Minnesota Safety Council:

How to borrow study materials:
Call Angie at MN Safety Council, 651-291-9150 to find out what is available and reserve it for in-person pickup within two business days after the call (no mailing).

  • Pickup/Return materials to Minnesota Safety Council Office, 474 Concordia Ave, St. Paul, MN 55103
  • Return in person or by mail within 3 weeks of checkout date – late returns will be charged replacement cost of the resource.
  • If more than one person requests a resource, they will be put on waiting list and called when resource becomes available.
Recertification Points

Midwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety Free Online Continuing Education Courses

The Midwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety (MCOHS) offers professional continuing education courses.  Included in their offerings are FREE online courses that can be used for recertification points.  There are numerous interesting topics to discover, and each has a specified number of points earned for completion, some up to 0.33 points.  Visit http://www.sph.umn.edu/ce/online/ to view and register for courses or contact Ruth Rasmussen at rasmu048@umn.edu.

Recertification Points for Safety and Health Content

Classes and seminars that contain safety and health related content are eligible for recertification points, even if they are not pre-registered through the sponsoring organization.  For every 1 hour of instruction, you can earn up to 0.1 recertification points.  Remember to keep your class registration information, schedule/syllabus, certificate of completion, and instructor information.

Earning your ASP

If you currently hold a CHST or OHST, you will earn 20 recertification points for achieving your ASP.
