April’s Northwest Chapter Meeting: Student Presentations (Virtual Event Only!)

The Northwest Chapter’s monthly program will give ASSP Members and Guests the opportunity to watch as students from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and the University of Wisconsin-Stout graduate programs present on research topics they accomplished this year.

The two topics cover are as follows:

Resident Contact and Occupational Injury in Minnesota’s Group Homes

 

Adam Moskowitz is a doctoral candidate at the University of Minnesota studying Environmental Health with a concentration in Occupational Safety and Health Research and Policy.

Before starting his doctoral program, he worked at CPWR – The Center for Construction Research and Training in Silver Spring, MD.

 

Learning Objectives:

-Describe common activities and pathways for occupational injury in group homes that related to contact with group home clients and residents.

-Explain patterns in injury outcomes as they relate to contact with group home clients and residents

 

Automotive glass replacement process and the methods to control excessive force, posture, repetition and cold stress-related risk factors

 

Shuayin Lor is currently within her final term of UW-Stout’s M.S. Risk Control and Safety Management program.

In 2023, she completed a Bachelor’s in Business Administration degree with a minor in Human Resources Management and Music Industry from UW-Oshkosh and is fluent in speaking the Hmong language.

Shuayin served as a Human Resources and Safety Intern for a municipality in the Fox Valley region.

She currently works as a Human Resources Administrative Assistant within an Eau Claire-based healthcare institution and anticipates entering the risk control / safety management profession in June of 2024.

Shuayin’s Plan B Capstone applied research thesis is focused on assessing the ergonomic risk factors of employees who perform bulk food transfer activities for a Wisconsin-based healthcare provider.

 

Emily Finder is currently within her final term of UW-Stout’s M.S. Risk Control and Safety Management program.

She completed a B.S. Biology degree in 2020 with an emphasis in Spanish and chemistry from Viterbo University.

Emily received her EMT certificate from Western Technical college and has been employed as an EMT with Gunderson Health System Ambulance for the past three years.

She holds both OSHA 30-hour Construction and 10-hour General Industry safety cards and anticipates entering the risk control and safety management profession in June of 2024.

Emily’s industrial hygiene-based Plan B Capstone applied research thesis is focused on assessing employee airborne dust exposures for a Wisconsin-based floor installation firm.

Safe Practices in the use of 3D Printing.

Adam Quick is currently a Master’s student in UMD’s Environmental Health and Safety program as well as a graduate intern for UMD’s Department of Environmental Health and Safety Department. He graduated with his Bachelor’s from UMD in Biochemistry in 2023 and is currently working to build a career as an industrial hygienist with a focus on laboratory safety.

Highlights of the program include but not limited to;

• Learn common 3D printing techniques and equipment
• Understand common hazards associated with various 3D printing processes
• Learn to recognize and reduce hazards associated with 3D printing and 3D printers
