Amy currently is chair of the ANSI/ASSP Z10 Committee and a member of the leadership team for the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ISO Project Committee 283 that publishes ISO 45001, the international standard on occupational health and safety management systems. She is the president of AT Safety, a consulting firm that specializes in management systems. She is a recognized expert in management systems, risk assessments, incident investigation, and regulatory compliance. Amy is an instructional assistant professor at Illinois State University. In her spare time, she’s actively involved in Girls on the Run and is an avid fitness and health enthusiast.
The ANSI/ASSP Z10.0 standard helps to establish OSH management systems to improve employee safety, reduce workplace risks and create better working conditions. It is one of the most comprehensive systems-based standards for improving OSH performance and provides an architecture that each organization can customize to their individual needs. Effective safety and health management programs that incorporate principles found in the ANSI/ASSP Z10.0 standard enable organizations to holistically view interdependent core system elements and better engage management and workers in improving organizational safety performance. This helps to improve productivity and eliminate risks that can endanger people, property and the environment.

The Dan Hannan Sr., Memorial EHS Scholarship
EHS professionals serve employers and employees by preserving what matters most—the quality of life. This is accomplished by effectively managing the risks associated with working conditions and human behaviors. No employee should go to work fearful of injury or unknowingly exposed to hazards and conditions that could result in a debilitating illness. To that end, the EHS professional is a vital part of an employer’s operations, ensuring sustainability by contributing to the return on investment that a healthful workforce provides to a business.
Dan Hannan Sr.—was a commercial painter for four decades from the 1950’s through the 1980’s. His passing in 2000 because of lung cancer was caused in part by his occupational exposures that occurred well before workplace controls were established by OSHA in 1970. This onetime $1,000 scholarship proves to memorialize not only his service to his trade but also his largely unguarded health and safety condition
Application information can be found on the below form.

Chapter Meeting Updates: Season Opener was a Win!
Our Chapter meeting season opener was a success with Jim Krueger from Minnesota OSHA providing updates on what’s happening at MNOSHA and the impact of 2022 legislation. We had around 55 people attendees in person and online. Here are a couple of take aways:
- Minnesota is now part of the Chicago Region (renamed from Region V).
- By the time you read this adoption of the changes to the hazard communication standard will have been published.
- Penalties go up again on October 1. Minnesota still provides credits for size, having a safety program and history.
- There were 32 fatalities last year, down from 45 the year before. Falls in general industry and electrocutions are increasing concerns.
- There has been an increase in workplace violence injuries and fatalities, especially in healthcare and convenience stores.
Congratulations to Scott Norman and Greg Olson who both won a free registration at an upcoming meeting! We will continue to give away two free registrations at each meeting.
